Can Osteopathy help with the management of Endometriosis?
Endometriosis is a complex condition that requires a personalised approach for effective management. While there is currently no cure for endometriosis, osteopathy may provide relief and help manage symptoms, improving quality of life and making each cycle a little more manageable.
Here are a few way an Osteopath may be able to help you:
Lymphatic support
Our lymphatic system plays a huge role in supporting immunity, toxin removal and inflammation. Having a well-functioning lymphatic system can help support your body in managing endo inflammation.
Pelvic floor
Looking at pelvic floor tone and function can be so helpful to build a full picture of your pelvic health. Chronic pain can mean we hold tension in our pelvic floor, increasing tone, pelvic dysfunction and discomfort.
Post laparoscopy scar care
This is IMPORTANT! 6-9 weeks post laparoscopic surgery is a good time to start working with an osteopath to promote tissue regeneration, restore mobility and prevent scar tissue buildup. We may also work to release your lower back, diaphragm, upper back and any tension through your abdominal area to support your recovery post- surgery.
Chronic constipation
Constipation is a BIG one when it comes to endo. Chronic constipation can increase your chance of pelvic pain and also impact the body’s detoxification pathway. By reducing constipation the body has a better chance at reducing inflammation, removing waste effectively and decreasing pelvic pain flares. Excess Oestrogen is eliminated via bowel movement. We normally aim to do a session post-ovulation so that we increase your chance of eliminating excess oestrogen and toxin build up prior to your bleed.
Return to exercise post laparoscopy
Returning to exercise post laprascopic surgery or after a little exercise hiatus can be daunting! But working with an osteo one one-on-one to start introducing movement can be great in identifying what you need to work on and to find the right exercise for you. Working in a personalised and supportive environment to get started can help prevent flare up and pelvic pain as you work towards group classes, longer walks or runs.
Nervous system support
Osteopaths can work to support your nervous system which plays a big role in pain management and may help prevent flare-ups. We aim to have a nervous system that can ebb and flow with resilience when things get stressful or you experience pain.
Referral recommendations
As primary allied health practitioners, osteopaths can help create an experienced and informed allied health team. It is important to work with practitioners who have experience with endometriosis so that they can provide specific and informed care.
